From 20 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, the Koblenz old town becomes a sea of lights for seven weeks. The Christmas market spreads across seven squares that you can all link on foot: from the Jesuitenplatz with the Advent calendar on the town hall roof via the Am Plan square to the Zentralplatz with a 70-year-old wooden Ferris wheel. The Christmas Garden at Ehrenbreitstein Fortress adds to it. Here are the official dates and hours for 2026, and tips for a day on the Rhine and Moselle.

All seven squares are in the old town, only minutes apart. The Zentralplatz with the Forum Confluentes is the bus hub, and you continue on foot from there. You reach Ehrenbreitstein Fortress by cable car from the Deutsches Eck across the Rhine.

Here you find Christmas decorations, Schwibbögen (lighted arches), pyramids, nutcrackers, stollen, honey and Moravian stars. On the roof of the baroque town hall hangs an Advent calendar with 24 gables. Near the Citykirche stands a charity hut. Important: the Jesuitenplatz and the square in front of the Liebfrauenkirche already close on 22 December 2026.
On Am Plan, huts sell Indian scarves, decorations and dog biscuits, and there is a pyramid with seating huts and a children's carousel. On the Josef-Görres-Platz you find sweets, regional wines, wool and olive wood, plus mulled wine from local winemakers. A small train runs through a Christmas forest, and heated huts invite you to sit.
The MĂĽnzplatz is the largest square. The WeihnachtsmĂĽhle and MĂĽnzscheune act as meeting points. To eat there are apple pancakes, Baumstriezel, vegetable pan, potato chips and flame-grilled salmon. The stalls sell leather goods, schnapps and liqueurs, cheese, ham, olive wood and glass, and there is a carousel for children.
The "SchaEngelbar" serves white and red winemakers' mulled wines, sweets and roasted almonds. A nativity scene stands in the town hall courtyard.
Next to the Forum, a 70-year-old wooden Ferris wheel turns slowly between blue and red huts. There are crĂŞpes, hand-knitted hats and Christmas tablecloths. The tourist information in the Forum Confluentes offers regional specialities and gifts.
The smallest square has Feuerzangenbowle and craftspeople who work with wood and mammoth ivory. At weekends Manfred Gniffke tells stories with his son Michael, and St Nicholas hands out sweets.

In the main season from 20 November 2026 to 22 December 2026, traders and drinks stalls keep different hours:
From 23 December the "Koblenzer Winterzeit" starts on the five squares that stay open. Traders are then closed, while drinks, food and rides run: on 23 December and from 27 to 30 December 11am–9pm, on 31 December 11am–4pm, on 2 and 3 January 11am–8pm. From 24 to 26 December and on 1 January 2027 everything is closed. The page says nothing about special hours on Totensonntag, 22 November; if in doubt, ask the tourist information (phone 0261 1291610, daily 10am–6pm).
The Christmas Garden runs from 19 November 2026 to 10 January 2027 at Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, a light and sound experience. It opens at dusk and is paid. The organiser has not published a price list; for the family days on 25 November, 2, 9 and 16 December 2026 and 6 January 2027 it names a special price from 39.95 euros. You can reach the fortress by cable car from the Deutsches Eck.
Mulled wine prices for 2026 are not published. Every drink carries a deposit of 5 euros. Without the deposit token you do not get the money back; you may keep the mugs and glasses but cannot reuse them next year.
Children's carousels stand on Am Plan and on the Münzplatz. On the Josef-Görres-Platz a small train runs through the Christmas forest, and the Ferris wheel turns on the Zentralplatz. At weekends the storyteller and St Nicholas come to the Liebfrauenkirche. The Christmas Garden has family days on 25 November, 2, 9 and 16 December and on 6 January.
The main station is reachable by train from many German cities. From there bus lines 8, 3/13, 5/15, 33, 460, 150 and 319 run to the Zentralplatz/Forum stop; from there you reach all other squares on foot. The city centre has several car parks, such as Altlöhrtor, Am Saarplatz, Görresplatz, Obere Löhr, Rhein-Mosel-Halle, Schängel-Center, Schloss, Am Hauptbahnhof and Weisser Höfe. The organiser gives no prices. To avoid traffic, use the koveb park and ride at Karthause, Metternich, Moselweiß or Oberwerth; the buses stop at the Zentralplatz/Forum.
Dogs are not banned at the market, but the organiser recommends leaving them at home because of the crowds. The market is reachable by wheelchair; the old town's cobblestones can be an obstacle.
The organiser gives no accommodation recommendation. Book early for Advent weekends or visit on a weekday.
