About this place

Hansa-Park in Sierksdorf, on the Bay of Lübeck in northern Germany, calls itself the country's only theme park by the sea, and from several rides you can look straight out over the Baltic. Its roughly 46 hectares (114 acres) are split into eleven themed areas inspired by the medieval Hanseatic League, Nordic legends and the Wild West. Record-breaking thrill rides sit next to plenty of gentle attractions, which makes it a strong day trip from Hamburg or Lübeck.

A short history

The site first opened in 1973 as a Legoland, which closed after only three seasons. It reopened in 1977 as Hansaland and has been called Hansa-Park since 1987. It is a seasonal park and drew about 1.4 million visitors in 2016.

Things to do at Hansa-Park

  • Der Schwur des Kärnan (2015): at 240 feet (73 m) and up to 79 mph, it shares the title of Germany's tallest and fastest roller coaster with Silver Star at Europa-Park. The lift runs up inside a brick tower.
  • Highlander (2019): a gyro drop tower with a total height of about 390 feet (120 m).
  • Flucht von Novgorod: a launched coaster reaching 66 mph.
  • Nessie (1980): a classic looping coaster.
  • Cornwall Coaster (new in 2026): a family coaster by German manufacturer Gerstlauer.

Children's play areas, boat rides and shows are included in admission; extras such as gold panning cost more.

Fall festival and end of the 2026 season

From October 10 to 25, 2026, the "Herbstzauber am Meer" (autumn magic by the sea) festival brings a light parade, an evening show with fireworks and a food festival. During this period the park is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with rides running until 8:30 p.m.; some water rides close at 4 p.m. October 25 is the final day of the 2026 season – the park is closed in winter.

Tickets and opening hours

Day tickets for 2026 (as of October 2026) cost €53 for visitors aged 12 and up and €43 for children aged 4 to 11 and seniors aged 70 and over; children under 4 enter free. A two-day ticket costs €85. Parking is €7 per car per day. Opening hours outside the fall festival are listed in the park's online calendar.

How to get to Hansa-Park

Hansa-Park sits right off the A1 autobahn about 15 miles (25 km) north of Lübeck; from Hamburg it is about 60 miles (95 km) by car. By rail, take a regional train via Lübeck to Sierksdorf – travel guides put the walk from the station at about ten minutes – and check current connections in the DB Navigator app. Regional trains are covered by the Deutschlandticket. Hamburg Airport is the closest international airport.

Is it worth visiting?

If you enjoy big coasters or are spending a beach holiday on the Baltic coast, yes. Combine a park day with a walk on the pier in nearby Scharbeutz or an afternoon in Lübeck's UNESCO-listed old town with its famous Holstentor gate.
