About this place

Belantis on the southern edge of Leipzig is the largest theme park in central Germany and a popular family day out in Saxony. Built on a former open-cast lignite mine next to today's lake district, it spreads eight themed worlds across the site, from a Valley of the Pharaohs with a giant pyramid to a knights' island. The park is in the middle of a makeover: its new French owner is turning it into a German Asterix park.

History

Belantis opened on April 5, 2003 on about 27 hectares (67 acres) of reclaimed mining land. After several owners, Compagnie des Alpes – the company behind Parc Astérix near Paris – bought it in April 2025 and announced a step-by-step conversion into an Asterix-themed park, with a full rebrand planned for 2030/31. The first step, Idefix's Abenteuerland (Dogmatix's adventure land), opened in May 2026.

Things to do at Belantis

  • The pyramid in the Valley of the Pharaohs, home to the flume ride "Fluch des Pharao" and the family coaster "Cobra des Amun Ra".
  • Huracan (2010): the park's biggest roller coaster, with inversions.
  • Drachenritt: a bobsled-style coaster on the knights' island.
  • Idefix's Abenteuerland: four new rides and a nature playground for younger children.

The Götterflug ride is closed throughout 2026. Leashed dogs are welcome, and free Wi-Fi covers the whole park.

Halloween and the end of the 2026 season

From October 21 to November 1, 2026, Belantis celebrates Halloween daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., except on October 26 and 27, when the park is closed. Until 4 p.m. the family-friendly "Spooky Days" are suitable from age 4; from 4:30 p.m. the scarier "Horror Nights" are recommended for ages 12 and up. November 1 is the last day of the season.

Tickets and opening hours

As of October 2026, dated online tickets start at €29 if you book at least seven days ahead, and an open-date ticket valid on any day of the 2026 season costs €42. Children under 4 enter free. Daily opening hours outside the Halloween period are listed in the park's online calendar.

How to get to Belantis

From Leipzig city center the park is about 20 minutes by car via the A38 autobahn. By public transport, take an S-Bahn train toward Markkleeberg and change to bus 105, which runs to the park on opening days – the Deutschlandticket covers both. Leipzig/Halle Airport and Leipzig Hauptbahnhof, with fast trains from Berlin and Dresden, are the main arrival points.

Is it worth visiting?

It is best for families with children up to about 12, and a smart add-on to a Leipzig city break. Afterward, relax at the beaches of Lake Cospuden or Lake Zwenkau, or head back into town for the Monument to the Battle of the Nations and St. Thomas Church, where Bach worked.
